Is your Life
worth Living?
~It's All A Matter of Time!
We live in a world where time is of the essence. Especially, as we see the
SARS epidemic, the threat of terrorism and the natural calamities
like earthquakes, etc, we are challenged to reflect on how short and
indefinite life itself is. And whatever time is given to us should
be utilised with measured precision and utmost alertness.
A century is a long time in history. A second is a long time in basketball.
We are also always assessing the present, reviewing the past and hoping
for a better future.
When life is hectic, hours seem like seconds. When we are in distress,
seconds seem like hours. When all is going well, there are not enough
hours in the day. When all is not well, the shortest night is far
too long. We have also learned from experience that the good days
are too good to last, and the bad days are not the last of it.
King Solomon, who had it all, said," the years draw near when
you say, 'I have no pleasure in them'"(Eccl. 12:1). Considering
the depressiing prospect of old age and infirmity, Solomon also wrote
of a "time to be born and a time to die," and later added,
"the living know that they will die" (Eccl. 3:2, 9:5).
However, the Bible teaches that man's real problem is eternity. Having
been born, we can never cease to exist, for death itself does not
take away the survival of the soul nor cancel the inevitability of
judgement. For the "Holy and Lofty One who inhabits eternity,
whose name is Holy" (Isa. 57:15) takes account of how men pass
their time.
Apostle Paul wrote that "it is high time to awake out of sleep"
(Rom. 13:11). Jesus preached repentance in Israel over 2000 years
ago. God has been very generous with time, withholding judgement from
a wicked world (2 Peter 3:9). But time is running out. Trust in the
Lord Jesus who died for our sins and rose from the dead for our acquittal.
"Behold now is... the day of salvation" (2Cor. 6:2). Don't
wait! Tomorrow may never come. Before there is no more time for you
to change, now, now, you must decide to get eternal life. Before SARS
touches you, be saved!
Be encouraged,
